14 days and counting till the first game day kickoff.
August in the coaching world is the time when the coaches and players get down to the nitty gritty of prepping for the upcoming season. It is long days on the field, in meetings, and staring at a computer or tablets, going back through endless amounts of practice film - over and over again.
In the coach's wife world, August can be viewed a couple of ways. On the positive side - finally! We get to have the TV back, so we can watch unlimited amounts of HGTVs Fixer Upper and any other favorite TV series that is forbidden in the off season. You get to hog the bed, for possibly an extra hour in the morning. If your afternoon adventure to Target take a little longer than you hoped. It's ok, you do not have to rush home to put dinner on. A big salad and some chicken nugz for the kiddo from Wendy's on the way home - BOOM! Dinner is done!
Of course, then there is the downside. Single parenting with the kids or fur babies (maybe BOTH) is straight up no fun! Help with dinner, bath, and bedtime is no longer an option. Of course, it never fails, anything and everything will break or fall apart (Last night, our new washer has now decided to stop working- UGH!). Plus, any wedding, birthday party, or Labor Day cookout invite will be a party of one.
Here are a few things we do to survive August camp life!
-Plan Family Visits - August is a perfect time to schedule a little one on one time with the family. Once the season starts, there isn't too much traveling done, unless it is with the team. That maybe rare too with a little one.
A couple of weeks ago, my sister came to spend a week with us. We had a blast sightseeing, and catching a few days at the beach. Last year, I flew back home south for a week. The long days of daddy at work, do not seem so long if we can fill our day with fun activities with the fam!
-Mommy Projects - I love finding a few small projects to get into during August. This can always seem to make the month fly by. I LOVE to craft, so in the past I have made a new team wreath to kick off the season.
A few other past projects have been reorganizing closets and purging clothes. Not that much fun. But it never hurts for us to purge since you never know when your next move will be.
With a growing toddler. It is amazing how quickly you go through tons of clothes. We will have some of the cutest outfits, we never get around to wearing. Simply because we grew out it. When I purge, I will organize a couple of piles, then take them (some even with the tags still on) to a local consignment store. Where they will give us money on the spot! Mommy win!
Another recent weekend (nap) project was repainting a desk. I was able to add this new little gem to our bedroom. Providing me a nice office nook to escape to.
-Daddy Visits- Much like in season, we try to make the most of our daddy/coach time as much as we can. During the month of August, you will find us around the office even more than usual during the season. We like to stop into say hi, so the monkey can burn off some energy, and mommy gets to be social.
Also It is nice because I will bring lunch, a snack, or dinner for him. If there is anytime, will will stick around for dinner after practice. I feel a little better knowing, that if I bring the food. He will eat. Plus, I know he has a lot healthier options to pick from, rather than if he ran out to grab fast food.
August maybe the one of the busiest months when it comes to coaching, but honestly it is here and gone in the blink of an eye. Filling these days with memories that last a lifetime is what is important.
